How we collect and check the data

Every row comes from a tour listing on GetYourGuide or Viator. On Viator we also use the booking rules the operator sets: the age bands it sells tickets for and the minimum group size. For each tour we read these sections: Not suitable for, Not allowed, Know before you go, What to bring, Includes, Not included and the description.

Stated, not guessed

A restriction appears only when the listing states it, and we show the sentence it came from. If a listing says nothing about, say, strollers, we mark it not stated. We never treat silence as a yes or a no.

Two scores are estimates

Seasickness risk and claustrophobia are 1–5 scores we calculate. We start from the activity type (a whale-watching boat in open water rates higher than a lagoon cruise; a submarine higher than an open cenote) and adjust for words in the listing such as “open ocean”, “choppy”, “calm bay”, “narrow passages” or “spacious”. Treat them as a guide.

Monthly re-checks, human review

Each month we re-read every listing and compare the restriction text with what we stored. A changed listing is flagged for review. A person checks it, and the operator’s own website where needed, before the change is published. Nothing changes on this site automatically.

Weight limits

We show the lowest single-passenger figure in the listing. Some operators refuse passengers above the limit; others ask you to buy a second seat. We label which. Combined and average group weights are listed in the quote.

Corrections

Operators and travellers can send corrections to hello@tourlimits.com. We fix confirmed errors within a few days.
